SIM registration in Pakistan refers to the mandatory process of linking every SIM card to a valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). This requirement was introduced by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enhance security, reduce crime involving mobile phones, and ensure accountability.
Since 2014, all SIMs must be activated through biometric verification at the point of sale. This means you must physically visit an authorized SIM registration center or franchise, provide your original CNIC, and have your fingerprints verified through NADRA's biometric verification system (BVS).
Each CNIC can have a limited number of active SIMs across all operators, as specified by PTA regulations. Regularly checking your SIM count helps you detect any unauthorized SIMs that may have been registered on your CNIC without your knowledge.
Every Pakistani mobile number begins with a four-digit prefix (e.g., 0300 for Jazz, 0310 for Zong, 0340 for Telenor, 0330 for Ufone). These prefixes were originally allocated to specific mobile network operators by PTA.
When you enter a mobile number into our lookup tool, the system matches the prefix against our database to identify the likely original network. However, due to Mobile Number Portability (MNP), the number may have been ported to a different operator. The prefix indicates the original allocation, not necessarily the current carrier.
For accurate real-time carrier information, you can contact the operator directly or use official PTA services.
The Biometric Verification System (BVS) is a NADRA-managed system that verifies your identity through fingerprints before a SIM can be activated. This ensures that every SIM is linked to a real person.
Your fingerprints are verified at the authorized retailer using a NADRA BVS device.
NADRA verifies your identity in real time against its national database.
Upon successful verification, the SIM is activated and linked to your CNIC.
